Dear [TITLE] [LAST NAME]

I know that you have been debating H.R.7, the transportation bill, for months now. I also know that the current bill spends more each year than federal revenues coming into the Highway Trust Fund.

The 112th Congress was elected with a mandate from the American people to cut spending and stop the status quo. Unfortunately, the highway bill you are currently debating does neither.

It spends more than we can afford and continues the Washington habit of taking money from the states and then telling the states how to spend it.

Instead, we should allow the states to spend their own transportation money and stop bankrupting the Highway Trust Fund.

If we're ever going to get our country back on track, issues that used to be cut and dry need to receive more scrutiny, and you now know that the American people are keeping track of everything, not just major legislation.

I hope that you will reconsider H.R.7, and I thank you in advance for doing so.

Respectfully,
