RE: PLEASE PROTECT OUR CHAPLAINS AND TROOPS’ BIBLES, NOW!

Dear [Sen.] [Rep.] [LAST NAME]:

Please accept this petition, asking you to protect and support our military chaplains right to pray publicly according to their own faith and conscience, even if they end their prayers “in Jesus’ name.”

Congressmen Mike McIntyre (D-NC) and Walter Jones (R-NC) have introduced a bi-partisan bill, H.R. 268, protecting our troops and military chaplains right to free religion and free speech, which our forefathers believed would be protected by the First Amendment, but lately have been attacked by the domestic enemies of religious liberty.

Please also support our troops right to speak about their own faith in public, and oppose recent efforts to silence them and seize and destroy their privately-owned Bibles.

Recently atheist and Muslim extremist groups have successfully pressured the Pentagon to confiscate and destroy some of our troops’ privately-owned, foreign language Bibles, which could have legally been given as gifts (during off-duty time) to Afghani citizens who welcome our troops in their homes, as an expression of American gratitude for Afghani hospitality, promoting our democratic ideals of freedom of religion and freedom of the press.

Please contact Pentagon officials and tell them that non-threatening “evangelism is not a crime” and that our troops of any and all diverse faiths have a right to speak about their personal faith, even in public, even overseas.

They sacrifice for others, should we deprive them of their own religious liberty?

I specifically request you write to me to explain your stand on these issues.

I pray to God you will defend religious liberty for our troops and chaplains.

Sincerely,
