RE: Please REJECT Judge Sotomayor

Dear [Sen.] [LAST NAME]:

I'm writing to ask you to please REJECT President Obama's Supreme Court nominee, Judge Sonia Sotomayor, due to the fact that she has proven herself to be a judicial activist who would "legislate from the Supreme Court bench."

Judge Sotomayor, speaking at a symposium sponsored by the Berkeley "La Raza Law Journal" in 2001, stated, "I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn’t lived that life."

Judge Sotomayor is saying that her experience as a person of a particular sex and ethnic background will make her a better judge than a person of another sex and a different ethnic background!

When did that view become acceptable?

Judge Sotomayor is a judicial activist who allows her ideology to dictate her decisions, rather than the facts of each case. In a now-famous quote at Duke Law School, she even stated her firm belief that the court "is where policy is made." That is called "legislating from the bench" -- and that is NOT what is needed on the Supreme Court.

Please, do the RIGHT thing -- REJECT President Obama’s Supreme Court nominee, Judge Sonia Sotomayor, due to the fact that she has proven herself to be a judicial activist who would "legislate from the Supreme Court bench." Thank you.

Sincerely,
