RE: Please SLOW DOWN Judge Sotomayor Hearings

Dear [Sen.] [LAST NAME]:

I'm writing to ask you to please STOP the current attempts at rushing through a vote on President Obama's Supreme Court nominee, Judge Sonia Sotomayor, and slow down the hearings until she can be carefully and thoroughly investigated and questioned.

Just a few years ago, Senate Democrats stated over and over again, regarding President Bush' Supreme Court nominees: "The Senate is not a rubber stamp! It's more important to do it right than to do it fast!" Democratic leaders did everything they could to slow down the confirmation process.

Now, they're trying to ram through the nomination of Sonia Sotomayor -- going so far as to shorten the confirmation process, unilaterally deciding to start hearings on July 13th, make the hearings short, and allow only a couple of days of debate on the Senate floor before forcing a vote. They want the shortest confirmation timeline in recent memory, for someone with the longest judicial record in recent memory. This violates basic standards of fairness, and it prevents Senators from carrying out one of their most solemn duties -- a thorough review of the President's nominee to a lifetime position on the highest court in the land.

It's up to YOU and your fellow Senators to STOP this flagrant violation of Senate comity and decorum. Please, do the RIGHT thing -- STOP the current attempts at rushing through a vote on President Obama's Supreme Court nominee, Judge Sonia Sotomayor, and slow down the hearings until she can be carefully and thoroughly investigated and questioned. Thank you.

Sincerely,
