RE: Vote NO on the S.T.A.R.T. Treaty!

Dear [Sen./Rep.] [LAST NAME]:

I urge you to vote NO on the new S.T.A.R.T. Treaty. It threatens the national security of the United States by requiring America to reduce its nuclear arsenal, even while under threat from regimes like Iran and North Korea.

It is also disturbing that it puts very few restrictions on Russia, who has just been found to be selling arms to Venezuela, a country with a leader who makes very anti-American statements.

President Obama refuses to release details of his negotiations and he is pushing for ratification before Christmas. This seems hasty and suspicious.

Please vote NO. The Senate needs to act in the best interests of American security and take the time to debate the Treaty and consider the opinions of experts like Frank Gaffney of the Center for Security Policy, who says "It would be irresponsible of the U.S. Senate to allow itself to be reduced to a rubber stamp rather than the kind of real, quality control mechanism on such treaties that the Constitution mandates."

The new S.T.A.R.T. is bad for America because:

-It prevents the U.S. from modernizing and updating our nuclear arsenal-leaving us with an outdated, ineffective defense system;

-It compromises our sovereignty by giving a Bilateral Consultative Commission the power to make decisions about our nuclear capabilities, bypassing the Senate;

-It does nothing to address the danger of nuclear terrorism, ignoring the threats we face from Iran and North Korea - and allowing Russia to retain their tactical nukes which could, in turn, be sent to enemy countries and used against us.

I urge you to vote NO. I will be watching your vote carefully.

Sincerely,
[YOUR NAME]
